Linux VM Deployment in Azure for API Data Scraping

We deployed a new Linux virtual machine in Microsoft Azure, replicating an existing system used for automated API data scraping. The VM was built manually to match the original configuration, with careful scheduling to ensure minimal down time and seamless continuation of background data operations.

On behalf of a partner, we were tasked with replicating an existing Azure-hosted Linux VM responsible for scheduled API data scraping. The goal was to migrate or rebuild the system with minimal service interruption while maintaining identical performance and output.

The project involved:

  • Manual     replication of the Linux VM environment
  • Configuration     of scraping scripts, dependencies, and cron jobs
  • Deployment     via Azure Portal using optimised VM sizing
  • DNS,     SSH, and network rules configuration for immediate availability
  • Testing     and validation to resume scraping tasks without delays

This ensured continuity for automated data workflows while benefiting from a cleaner, more maintainable VM deployment, ready for future scaling or containerisation.
